The Fisheye Project in Gothenburg
THE EPIDEMIC OF ART
2005
In this project Fisheye embarked on a journey under the sea where the vast and little known mysteries of the abyss lie ahead. The Ocean and its gifts have for a long time been Iceland's most important natural resources and the foundation for prosperity in this country. The sea is an enormous living mass of water that connects the shores of Iceland to in this case the shores of Sweden and in a way also symbolizes the relationship between these two countries on many different levels
During the run of this project we have collaborated with scientists at The Icelandic Marine Research Institute in gathering material and inspiration and this body of work is largely based on research material and photographs acquired by Fisheye during research expeditions with the Marine Research institute.
Fisheye is an ongoing collaboration between four artists that aims at mapping the interplay between man, technology and nature. Fisheye is interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and in breaking the isolation of art from other threads of society.
Fisheye aims at achieving these goals through exhibitions and publications in collaboration with various institutions, scholars, businesses and artists.
Institutions and individuals that Fisheye collaborated with on this project are;
The Icelandic Marine Research Institute: Arnar Steingrímsson, ichthyologist,
Ásgeir Gunnarsson natural scientist, Sigmar Arnar Steingrímsson marine biologist.
Ríkharður H. Friðriksson composer.
